I had to try THIS adaptogenic mushroom because its funny name made me smirk

Biohacker Review of Tiger Milk Mushroom

In the chilly early days of January this year, I started taking capsuled Tiger Milk Mushroom. It’s the newest edition to my stack of wintertime immune enhancers; Turkey Tail, Vitamin D3, and Methylene Blue. Experientially, I don’t have much to report about it other than the fact that I haven’t gotten even a bit ill this winter.

Scientific overview

Tiger Milk is another adaptogenic mushroom, a traditional medicine used since time immemorial in Malaysia. It is traditionally used to treat inflammation triggered symptoms and illnesses such as cough, fever and asthma, according to a Malaysian paper. There are 21 human scientific papers published in the past decade on this mushroom, which I’ll summarize here.

It’s a respiratory and immune health hack according to a 2021 study that administered 300 milligrams to 50 Malaysians for three months. Making it a good choice for better breathing while keeping illness at bay during the winter months. From the study abstract:

Collectively, our findings suggested that [Tiger Milk Mushroom] supplementation effectively improves respiratory health, immunity and antioxidant status.

Other Malaysian studies highlight its anti-cancer potential, its nutraceutical constituents fight tumor growth. From a 2023 in vitro study

Based on the findings of our investigation, both the rhinoprolycan fraction and crude sclerotial powder from L. rhinocerus TM02® demonstrated tumor suppressive effects, indicating that they contain substances with strong anticancer potential.

Anecdotal evidence

Taking 3 capsules of Tiger Milk per day so far (will test 4), and it significantly improved my thought processing speed, speech eloquence, social acuity, and attenuated anxiety. A lot of background anxiety I usually have went away as of now. Not saying it will stay that way, but I’ll continue testing long-term.

Acceptable_Cheek_727 describes it as a “clarity hack”

I’ve taken roughly 20 capsules. I’ve taken nearly everything nootropic depot has on their website and I was pleasantly surprised with this product. Gives you clarity of mind and improves mood.

Pretty-Chill is a big fan of it

I’m a huge fan of the unique focus, verbal fluency, and memory-promoting effects I am getting from the tiger milk, especially combined with the unique respiratory benefits. It’s currently the only mushroom in my stack, and I plan to keep it there for the foreseeable future. I’ve always had issues perfectly meshing a mushroom into my stack, with the ultra-potent red reishi coming the closest. However, after some time, it was perhaps just a touch too calming with some of the other components in my stack. The tiger milk mushroom almost seems like it was made for my stack though!

I have only been using it for four days but can feel a slight improvement in my lungs.

And several Nootropics enthusiasts suggest stacking it with Lion’s Mane mushroom.

LiGNO TM02®

Is a patented version of Tiger Milk mushroom, about which you can find a handful of papers and studies on PubMed. As a Biohacker, I like patented ingredient supplements like this, it’s a good sign that it’s pure and manufactured to high standards. Purity is especially a concern with medicinal mushrooms as mushrooms tend to soak up what’s in the environment around them — you really don’t want to consume mushrooms grown in toxic factory farms!

We got this from Vita Nuova, based in France, serving European Biohackers.

Tiger Milk Mushroom (LiGNO TM02®) — 450 milligrams capsules

The manager of Vita Nuova is a very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful lady who responds to emails surprisingly fast. The wait time for shipping to us here in Bulgaria was less than 10 days not bad!

But, I don’t think I’d reorder Tiger Milk because it had negligible effects for me and there are much more scientifically studied medicinal mushrooms out there that appeal more to me as a Biohacker. Here’s a fun idea; Tiger Milk might make a good gag gift at (I don’t know…) a bachelor party or your buddy’s birthday as its name will no doubt inspire raucous adolescent jokes!
