I’ve lived in 6 different countries in 5 years and the truth is that around the world people mostly really like America and Americans.

From Ukraine to Colombia, countless times when I announced: I’m from Colorado…

Locals responded: Oh that’s so cool! With some degree of admiration for my country.

Now imagine if I just assumed that they all hated my country and Americans. What if I actually accused them of hating my country? Well, I wouldn’t make very many friends…

But what if all Americans like me that live and travel abroad were constantly making the accusation that everyone hates America and Americans? What if we relentlessly sought out and aimed to combat anti-American bigotry? It would be a self-fulfilling prophesy, we would actually make everyone dislike Americans.

Those who go in search of monsters to slay should be very wary of becoming one. In your desire to be meaner to racists you will become the very petty bigot that you most despise.
