What I’m doing all day is trying to make the case that income inequality is one of the greatest challenges of our time and that we have a moral obligation to eradicate poverty and restore opportunity to the middle class.
Leftists who think that we can fix all the world’s problems by taxing the rich just a little more and infringing just a little more on property rights always ignore 3 historical events…
China transitioning from communism to capitalism
India going free market
The industrial revolution in the United States
These are three of humanity’s greatest leaps forward in both sheer number and proportion of respective populations raised out of grinding, savage poverty. Cumulatively the free market in these three cases brought over a billion people into the middle class of their societies. The free market gave dignity to over a billion destitute poor people.
But what do these three cases have in common? Wealth inequality increased. While vast multitudes were raised out of poverty a few very skilled hard-working or lucky businessman got filthy rich.
So what’s really most important… actually fighting poverty or getting revenge on rich people that you’re jealous of?
