Nootropics/Biohacking Affiliates: WE GOT ROYALLY SCREWED
Science.Bio sometimes took over two weeks to process our payments and then charged us an additional (almost) 5% processing fee — a real slap in the face of the people that were making them money. How absurd is it that — in 2022, we had to wait two weeks on our paychecks? They could be using crypto to pay us affiliates; it would take 10 minutes tops for us to get the money and the fee would be less than 1%.
So Science.Bio got themselves in hot water with the feds by offering a bunch of super-edgy research chemicals and they had to close the doors of their online store.
And NOW I’m sure they’d like us to be Botany.bio affiliates, go to the trouble of changing all our affiliate links, and continue sending them business. They’ll make money on our affiliate commissions that float in their accounts for up to 45 days and then (in all likelihood) their legacy financial services payment processor pays them a cut of that onerous 5% processing fee. Otherwise, why the h*ll would they use such slow service?
I suggest that we collectivize (a bit), so we can negotiate some more fair arrangements with supplement vendors like Science.Bio.
Otherwise, they are going to continue to treat us as poorly as they do. As any affiliate is aware, whenever you complain to your “affiliate relationship manager” about things, they try to belittle you, saying “We payout affiliates making tens (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars EVERY month on time…”
I’ve created a Minds.com (best platform for privacy/security) group here for Nootropics/Biohacking affiliates and influencers.
Where we can privately talk shop; we can talk about our experiences with different vendors and propose negotiations with them. I volunteer to do some light moderation of the group; making sure that everyone who joins is an affiliate in the space and not some kind of troll or troublemaker.
First, I suggest that we tell Botany.Bio that we want to get paid back those onerous 5% processing fees from our days as Science.Bio affiliates BEFORE we promote their products again. AND, secondly, they need to get a faster payment processor; Paypal funds transfers are nearly instantaneous and their fees are quite reasonable and there are a bunch of crypto payment platforms that are even faster and cheaper.
I generated about $7000 in sales for them in the last 12 months and will put my name on just such a demand, in the Minds group let me know if you would do the same.
They are going to claim that they can’t improve because they are shutting down Botany.Bio “soon” but it’s quite likely that they’ll turn around, rebrand, and re-launch in a few months so it’s wiser to negotiate with them now.
Believe me, at least in this industry, vendors need affiliates MORE than affiliates need vendors.
Productive affiliates that actually drive sales and yield influence are a lot rarer than e-commerce stores with health supplements in stock. If they could generate sales by buying ads and traffic they would BUT that doesn’t really work anymore on the internet, what works is paying affiliates.
They need us more than we need them and it’s about time that we are treated fairly.
I might even suggest drafting an Affiliates’ Bill of Rights document that Nootropics/Biohacking/health supplements vendors have to agree on BEFORE we promote their stuff.
Affiliate business is inherently kind of a shady business. The longer you’re in it the more cynical you get. We can collectivize and hold vendors to a little higher standards and that will be better for everyone.
Next step: Join the Minds group and let me know if you were/are a Science.bio/Botany.bio affiliate.
Disappointingly the moderators of the Nootropics subreddit (r/Nootropics) succumbed to the authoritarian impulse and censored this post either to protect their own interests or to avoid ruffling some feathers. Others should have the option to join me in setting some healthy boundaries with these vendors who are profiting nicely thanks to the biohacking/nootropics community.
